Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Pakistani property measurements.

How many square feet is 1 Marla in Pakistan?
It depends on which standard applies to the property. The official Punjab Marla is 270 sq ft — this is what local areas, revenue records, and most private/local property dealings use. Housing societies (DHA, Bahria Town, Lake City, and other modern planned developments) use a different standard: 1 Marla = 225 sq ft. A third older standard (272.25 sq ft) is still used in some KP regions and historical land records. Use the toggle above the converter to switch between them — and always confirm which standard the seller is quoting before agreeing on a price.
How many Marla are in 1 Kanal?
1 Kanal always equals 20 Marla — but the size in sq ft depends on which Marla standard applies: 5,400 sq ft (Punjab Official, 270 sq ft Marla — local areas), 4,500 sq ft (Housing Society, 225 sq ft Marla — DHA, Bahria, etc.), or 5,445 sq ft (KP / historical, 272.25 sq ft Marla).
How many Kanal in 1 Acre?
1 Acre = 8 Kanal = 160 Marla = 4,840 square yards = 43,560 square feet. An acre is the same internationally — it's the Marla/Kanal conversion that varies by region.
How do I calculate the price per Marla?
Divide the total property price by the area (in Marla). Example: a 10 Marla house in a Multan local area priced at PKR 5 Crore = 50,000,000 ÷ 10 = PKR 50 Lakh per Marla. The same calculation works for housing society properties — just make sure the Marla standard matches (270 sq ft for local areas, 225 sq ft for societies). Use the "Price per Marla" tab above to do this instantly for any property listing.
Why are there different Marla measurements in Pakistan?
Pakistan has three Marla standards in active use:

1. Punjab Official — 270 sq ft
The standard used in official revenue records, local property dealings, and most of Multan's local areas and traditional neighbourhoods. If you're buying or selling outside a planned society, this is almost always the Marla being quoted.

2. Housing Society — 225 sq ft
Used in modern planned developments — DHA, Bahria Town, Lake City, Askari, and similar private housing societies. Most large listing portals also default to this for society properties. It comes from a simpler conversion: 1 Marla = 9 sq karam (1 karam = 5 ft).

3. KP / Historical — 272.25 sq ft
The pre-partition standard, still used in some Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions and historical land records.

This matters financially. A "10 Marla" plot in a local Multan area (Punjab Official) is 2,700 sq ft, but a "10 Marla" plot in a housing society is only 2,250 sq ft — a 20% difference. Always confirm which Marla the seller is using before agreeing on price.
What's the average price per Marla in Multan?
It varies significantly by area. Premium localities like Shalimar Colony, Model Town, and Zakariya Town command higher rates per Marla than developing areas like Northern Bypass or Fatima Avenue. Property type (house vs plot vs commercial) and condition also affect the rate. To see current Multan rates, browse live listings on Zamai.
How do I convert plot dimensions (45 ft × 25 ft) to Marla?
Multiply length × width to get total square feet, then divide by your Marla standard. For Punjab Official areas: 45 ft × 30 ft = 1,350 sq ft ÷ 270 = 5 Marla. For housing society properties: 45 ft × 25 ft = 1,125 sq ft ÷ 225 = 5 Marla. Use the "Plot Dimensions" tab above for instant calculation — toggle the standard to match the property type.
600 square feet is how many Marla in Pakistan?
600 square feet = 2.22 Marla under the Punjab Official standard (1 Marla = 270 sq ft), which applies to local areas, traditional neighbourhoods, and revenue records across Punjab including Multan, Lahore, and Faisalabad. Under the Housing Society standard (1 Marla = 225 sq ft), used in DHA, Bahria Town, and modern planned developments, 600 sq ft = 2.67 Marla. Always confirm with the seller which standard their property uses before comparing prices.
1200 square feet in Marla — Pakistan?
1200 square feet = 4.44 Marla under the Punjab Official standard (270 sq ft per Marla) or 5.33 Marla under the Housing Society standard (225 sq ft per Marla). A quick way to remember: divide sq ft by 270 for local area properties, or by 225 for society properties. Use the Unit Converter above to check any custom value instantly.
2000 square feet in Marla Pakistan?
2000 square feet = 7.41 Marla under the Punjab Official standard (1 Marla = 270 sq ft) or 8.89 Marla under the Housing Society standard (1 Marla = 225 sq ft). In practical terms, 2000 sq ft is close to a 7–8 Marla property depending on which standard applies — always a large family home in Pakistani context.
How many square feet in 4 Kanal?
4 Kanal = 21,600 square feet under the Punjab Official standard (1 Kanal = 5,400 sq ft) or 18,000 square feet under the Housing Society standard (1 Kanal = 4,500 sq ft). Since 1 Kanal = 20 Marla in all Pakistani standards, multiply your Kanal count by the correct value for your property type.

Quick formula:
Punjab Official: 4 × 5,400 = 21,600 sq ft
Housing Society: 4 × 4,500 = 18,000 sq ft
Is 1 Kanal equal to 20 Marla in Pakistan?
Yes — 1 Kanal = 20 Marla in Pakistan across all standards. This ratio is fixed and does not change whether you are using the Punjab Official standard (270 sq ft per Marla), the Housing Society standard (225 sq ft per Marla), or the KP/historical standard (272.25 sq ft per Marla). What changes between standards is only the square footage value of one Marla — not the 1 Kanal = 20 Marla relationship.

So: 1 Kanal = 20 Marla = 5,400 sq ft (Punjab Official) or 4,500 sq ft (Housing Society).
30 Marla is equal to how many Kanal?
30 Marla = 1.5 Kanal in Pakistan. Since 1 Kanal always equals 20 Marla across all Pakistani standards, divide the Marla count by 20: 30 ÷ 20 = 1.5 Kanal. This applies to local area properties, housing society plots, and all regions of Pakistan equally — the Marla-to-Kanal ratio never changes.
